The Verdict
I've spent enough time on the Kintyre peninsula to know that Campbeltown whisky carries a particular stubbornness — a refusal to be anything other than itself. Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 13 has that quality in spades. It is cask strength without being aggressive, heavily peated without being exhausting, and priced without pretension. At 7.5 out of 10, this is a strong recommendation. It loses half a point for being NAS in a world where I'd love to know what age of spirit is doing this much work, but that's a philosophical gripe more than a practical one. The liquid in the glass is confident, well-constructed, and deeply satisfying.
