The 2007 release — the oldest in the series at the time — arrived in a hand-crafted Lalique decanter that is, frankly, a piece of art in its own right. But within the rarefied world of ultra-aged Speyside single malt, this is a genuine landmark. It is a whisky that rewards contemplation, that shifts and evolves in the glass, and that reminds you why age, when managed with skill and patience, remains one of the most powerful tools in the whisky maker's arsenal.

Neat, in a tulip glass, at room temperature. Nothing else. No water, no ice, no distractions. Pour a small measure — you will not need much — and give it fifteen minutes to open before you even think about raising the glass. A whisky that has waited fifty-five years for you can spare another quarter of an hour.
