Tasting Notes

Nose

Floral hibiscus, chamomile, orange oil, apricot. Freshly opened peaches, milk chocolate, honeyed granola. Pastal de Nata. The Madeira finishing adds Mediterranean warmth to the Highland malts.

Palate

Sweet citrus — nectarine, peach, candied orange peel. Building to spun sugar caramel, baklava, hazelnut spread. The high-ester malts were specifically selected for fruity character, then Madeira-finished.

Finish

Lingering oak spice, sweet pastry, soft stone fruit. A Mediterranean market brimming with fruit and bakery stalls.

Nectar Grove 2023 is Wemyss Malts' fruit-driven Highland blended malt — using non-peated Highland malts specifically selected for their high ester (fruity) content, matured initially in refill bourbon casks then finished in Madeira wine casks. The result is a whisky designed to deliver maximum fruit and sweetness.

The ester-focused malt selection is the distinctive approach. By choosing malts with naturally high fruity ester content, then enhancing them with Madeira finishing, Wemyss creates a whisky that is almost overwhelmingly fruit-forward. The Mediterranean analogies — bakeries, fruit markets, pastéis de nata — are genuinely apt.

Nectar Grove 2023 is a well-made, fruit-forward Highland blended malt with a clear identity and genuine quality. The Wemyss name (the family behind Kingsbarns distillery) guarantees care and expertise, and the Madeira finishing adds a distinctive Portuguese warmth. A sweet, fruity dram for warm weather and dessert pairing.

Brought this to a tasting and it disappeared fast. Rich amber colour, ripe fruit on the nose, soft and approachable on the palate with just enough complexity to keep things interesting. It's the kind of whiskey that makes everyone at the table happy.

From the moment you crack the seal, this whiskey announces itself. Rich aromas of toffee, dried fruit, and old leather give way to a palate that's both powerful and remarkably elegant. The mid-palate weight is extraordinary — concentrated without being heavy. The finish lingers for what feels like a full minute with waves of oak spice and dark chocolate. Absolutely world-class.
