Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series (Toasted Maple Barrel Rye, Toasted Barrel Finished Rye) at 50.5% ABV, mash bill: undisclosed, SRP $41 — at $41.99/ 375ml bottle, the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.
Nose
This is golden brown in color with a yellow undertone. This rye is deep mahogany in color. This rye opens up with deep notes of blood orange zest, crème brûlée, and rose oil. Theres no hiding the fact that this is the maple barrel finished whiskey of the pair. Theres a bit of breakfast-y notes of Cheerios, orange marmalade, and white bread toast. Theres a note of hot metal and burnt tire at first sniff. Its a rather curmudgeonly nose, with herbal notes like Ricola. With time, the vanilla blossoms, becoming pungent, unleashing notes of toasted pumpernickel bread and angel food cake.
Palate

The Bottom Line
