Whisky Review: Penderyn Small Batch US Limited Edition #1, produced by has created so many avenues for flavor development using four different types of barrels and two distillation processes at 50% ABV, single malt, $110-$150 — at $110, the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.
Nose
The whiskey is a clear, dark golden color. The nose starts off bright with granny smith apple and pear. Honey, malt, light spice, and vanilla follow to mellow it out.
Palate
Penderyn is doing some interesting things in this release. The distillery has created so many avenues for flavor development using four different types of barrels and two distillation processes. The outcome is an elegant and delicious whisky. This may not be the most complex whisky with new notes unfolding with each sip, but the notes that are there are clear and clean and make you want to go back for more.
Finish
This whiskey has a creamy mouthfeel and a flavor reminiscent of cinnamon apple pie. Caramel and vanilla bring a balanced sweetness. The finish is lingering, spicy, and warm. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
The Bottom Line
Whisky Review: Penderyn Small Batch US Limited Edition #1 delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and at $110 represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
