15 reviewsReally enjoyable dram — honey, dried fruit, and a subtle spiciness that I think comes from the mizunara wood. It drinks smooth for 47% ABV. My only gripe is the £100 price tag feels steep for a blend with no age statement, but the finish is long and complex enough that I keep coming back to it.

11 February 2026Look, it's a good whisky. Warm vanilla, a hint of coconut, some gentle oak spice. The mizunara finish adds an interesting woody incense note that sets it apart. But for what you're paying I expected something that would knock my socks off, and it's more of a pleasant surprise than a revelation. I'd buy it again on sale.

23 December 2025I've been chasing mizunara-finished whiskies for a while now and this Amahagan No 3 genuinely delivers. There's this gorgeous sandalwood and incense thing on the nose that you just don't get from standard oak. At 47% it's got enough punch to carry all that delicate Japanese oak character without being harsh. Drinking it neat is the only way to go here.

13 November 2025Tried this neat after a mate brought it round and immediately ordered my own bottle. The nose is all dried apricot and sandalwood, and on the palate there's this lovely balance between sweetness and spice. At 47% it sits just right — warming but not aggressive. Been rationing it because I know I'll be sad when it's gone.

9 November 2025I'm usually skeptical of world blended whiskies but the Amahagan No 3 changed my mind. The mizunara finish gives it this unique incense-and-cedar quality that I haven't found in Scottish or American expressions. Poured it over a single large ice cube and it opened up beautifully — toffee, stone fruit, gentle baking spice. Worth every penny of the £99.
