24 reviewsStraight out of the bottle at 57.8% this was a bit hot and one-dimensional for me. But add a good splash of water and it transforms — suddenly you get toffee, baked apple, and wine gum notes. Took me a few sessions to figure out the sweet spot. If you're patient with it, there's a lot to enjoy here.

1 April 2026I like this but I wish the port finish was dialled back a touch. It leans heavily into jam and dried fruit territory which masks some of the distillery character I was hoping for. That said, the texture is lovely at natural strength and the finish goes on forever. Worth trying but maybe not a rebuy for me.

16 March 2026I tend to prefer sherried or bourbon-matured whiskies so the port finish isn't really my thing. It's well made, no question — the quality is there and the price is reasonable for what you get. Just a bit too winey and tannic for my personal taste. If you love port-finished whisky though, you'll probably rate this higher than I did.

6 March 2026For £95 you're getting a 13-year-old cask strength single cask — that's honestly decent value these days. Nose is all stewed berries and a bit of chocolate. On the palate it's rich and warming with that 57.8% giving it real presence. I drink it neat and let it breathe for ten minutes.

1 February 2026Picked this up during a visit to the London shop. The staff recommended it and they weren't wrong. It's got that classic Signatory quality — well-chosen cask, bottled at natural strength, no nonsense. The port finish complements the Highland maltiness really nicely. Would happily share this with friends.

25 January 2026Blair Athol doesn't get enough love as a distillery and bottles like this prove why it should. Rich, fruity, spicy — the port cask adds layers of plum and fig without turning it into a fruit bomb. I've paid more for far less interesting whisky. Already thinking about grabbing a backup.

21 January 2026I grabbed this on a whim from TWE and I'm so glad I did. The port cask gives it this gorgeous dark fruit sweetness — plums, blackcurrant — without drowning out the malty Blair Athol character. At cask strength it's a beast but a few drops of water opens it right up. One of the better indie Blair Athols I've tried.
