A cask-strength, port-finished Blair Athol from Signatory Vintage that delivers genuine depth and outstanding value at £94.95 — Highland malt at its quietly impressive best.

Omar Diallo VIPsAllowed — Nice but needs water
7/10

Straight out of the bottle at 57.8% this was a bit hot and one-dimensional for me. But add a good splash of water and it transforms — suddenly you get toffee, baked apple, and wine gum notes. Took me a few sessions to figure out the sweet spot. If you're patient with it, there's a lot to enjoy here.

Yuki Nakamura VIPsAllowed — Good but the port is a bit dominant

I like this but I wish the port finish was dialled back a touch. It leans heavily into jam and dried fruit territory which masks some of the distillery character I was hoping for. That said, the texture is lovely at natural strength and the finish goes on forever. Worth trying but maybe not a rebuy for me.

I tend to prefer sherried or bourbon-matured whiskies so the port finish isn't really my thing. It's well made, no question — the quality is there and the price is reasonable for what you get. Just a bit too winey and tannic for my personal taste. If you love port-finished whisky though, you'll probably rate this higher than I did.

For £95 you're getting a 13-year-old cask strength single cask — that's honestly decent value these days. Nose is all stewed berries and a bit of chocolate. On the palate it's rich and warming with that 57.8% giving it real presence. I drink it neat and let it breathe for ten minutes.

Picked this up during a visit to the London shop. The staff recommended it and they weren't wrong. It's got that classic Signatory quality — well-chosen cask, bottled at natural strength, no nonsense. The port finish complements the Highland maltiness really nicely. Would happily share this with friends.

Blair Athol doesn't get enough love as a distillery and bottles like this prove why it should. Rich, fruity, spicy — the port cask adds layers of plum and fig without turning it into a fruit bomb. I've paid more for far less interesting whisky. Already thinking about grabbing a backup.

Olivia Park VIPsAllowed — Port finish really works here

I grabbed this on a whim from TWE and I'm so glad I did. The port cask gives it this gorgeous dark fruit sweetness — plums, blackcurrant — without drowning out the malty Blair Athol character. At cask strength it's a beast but a few drops of water opens it right up. One of the better indie Blair Athols I've tried.
