8.1/10

A seventeen-year-old Oloroso-matured Speyside from Single Cask Nation, bottled at a commanding 57.5% ABV. At under a hundred pounds, this Glen Elgin delivers genuine cask strength complexity and outstanding value in the independent bottling market.

Henrik Larsen VIPsAllowed — Sherry bomb done right
9/10

This Glen Elgin is exactly what I want from an oloroso cask maturation — rich dried fruit, dark chocolate, and a hint of orange peel. At cask strength 57.5% it carries serious weight but never feels harsh. Seventeen years in that sherry cask really paid off. One of the better Single Cask Nation picks I've tried.

Camila Ortiz VIPsAllowed — Perfect after-dinner dram

Had this neat after a big meal and it was ideal. Warm baking spices, fig, and a long finish with a touch of bitter cocoa. The cask strength hits you but in a good way — there's real depth here. I'd happily buy another bottle if I spotted one.

I wanted more of the Glen Elgin distillery character to come through, but the oloroso cask kind of steamrolls everything. Don't get me wrong, the raisin and toffee notes are pleasant, and 17 years of age shows in the complexity. Just wish the spirit had more of a say in the conversation.

Nose is all Christmas cake and stewed plums, which I love from a Speyside at this age. Palate delivers on the promise with some walnut and spice coming through at that 57.5% ABV. At £95 it's not cheap for a single cask bottling but I've paid more for less. A few drops of water really opens it up.

Picked this up on a recommendation and it's a perfectly enjoyable sherried whisky. Rich and fruity with some nutty undertones, decent length on the finish. My issue is that at 17 years old and nearly a hundred quid I expected something more memorable. I'd drink it happily at a bar but wouldn't chase down another bottle.

I've had sherried Speysides at twice the price that weren't half as good as this. The nose alone is worth the £95 — dark honey, cinnamon, dried apricot. At 57.5% it's a sipper for sure, but every sip reveals something new. Single Cask Nation consistently picks winners and this 2007 vintage is no exception.
