7.9/10Kavalan's Bourbon Oak expression is a confident Taiwanese single malt bottled at a generous 46% ABV. Clean, well-crafted, and shaped by subtropical maturation, it offers something genuinely distinct from the traditional whisky regions at £92.50.

14 reviewsPleasant and easy drinking with vanilla and a bit of orchard fruit. Nothing here that'll challenge you but it's well made and the 46% ABV is a good choice — no chill filtration taste. I'd say it's a touch one-dimensional compared to their Sherry cask offerings, but still a quality bottle if you prefer lighter profiles.

31 March 2026Picked this up after a friend wouldn't stop raving about Kavalan. The nose is all tropical fruit and vanilla, and the palate delivers rich toffee and a hint of baking spice. Dangerously smooth for 46%. This is the bottle I reach for when I want to show people Taiwanese whisky is the real deal.

21 March 2026Solid single malt with nice honey and coconut notes from the bourbon oak. I enjoy it neat after dinner. At £92 though, I keep comparing it to Scotches in the same bracket that give me a bit more complexity. Would buy again on sale.

31 January 2026I grabbed this on a whim and it's become a regular pour. Loads of mango and vanilla on the nose, with a creamy butterscotch finish that lingers nicely. At 46% it's got enough kick to keep things interesting neat. Really impressed with what Kavalan is doing.

23 January 2026I usually drink peated Scotch but tried this over a single ice cube on a warm evening and it just clicked. Light stone fruit, creamy vanilla, and a clean sweet finish. The bourbon oak influence is obvious but never overdone. It's become my go-to summer whisky.
