7.6/10Method and Madness Mezcal Cask is Irish whiskey at its most adventurous — a cask strength Whisky Exchange exclusive that marries the smoothness of Irish distilling with the smoky earthiness of mezcal-seasoned oak, and somehow makes it work.

24 reviewsYou won't find another Irish whiskey that tastes like this. The mezcal cask adds something almost savoury — think grilled citrus and mineral smoke rather than peaty smoke. It's not my everyday pour at that price point but I don't regret buying it. Would love to try this at a lower ABV too.

17 March 2026Grabbed this on a whim from The Whisky Exchange and I'm so glad I did. The mezcal influence is subtle but adds this gorgeous smoky-savoury backbone to what's otherwise a fruity, rich Irish spirit. Cask strength at 60% and it barely needs water. Absolute cracker.

7 March 2026I appreciate what they're going for but the mezcal influence dominates too much for me. I kept wanting more of the Irish whiskey character to come through and it just didn't. The finish is long and peppery which I did enjoy. Might work better with ice but I prefer my Irish neat.

4 February 2026Method and Madness always swing for the fences and I respect that. The mezcal cask gives it an unusual earthy smoke that's nothing like peat — more like roasted agave and dried chilli. Not something I'd drink every night but it's a great conversation bottle for when mates come over.

19 January 2026I was skeptical about a mezcal cask finish on Irish whiskey but this genuinely works. You get that smoky agave funk on the nose, then it opens up into creamy vanilla and tropical fruit. At 60% ABV it's a beast neat, but a few drops of water really lets the smoke and sweetness dance together.

16 December 2025Full 60% and it doesn't bully you the way some cask strength bottles do. There's real depth here — baked banana, a wisp of smoke, dark chocolate on the finish. I've tried a few Method and Madness releases and this is up there with their best. TWE exclusive so grab it while you can.

13 December 2025Poured this neat and spent ten minutes just nosing it. Lime zest, smoked honey, a bit of leather. On the palate it's hot at 60% obviously, but there's this lovely salted caramel and green fruit thing going on. I keep coming back to the bottle which says it all really.
