Jefferson’s Tropics landed on my desk at 52% ABV; limited release in September of 2023; SRP, carrying a $99.99 Very light, alcohol is present, tropical fruits like mango, banana leaves, light coffee, and price tag. Here is what I found.
Nose
Very light, alcohol is present, tropical fruits like mango, banana leaves, light coffee, and sugar. The nose is harsher than I expected, but overall inviting albeit with a salty brine quality.
Palate
An initial rush of smoke before a salty profile on the tongue with soft oak and cocoa. There is vanilla and molasses about the mid palate before giving way to an even blend in the finish. The finish holds softly on the tongue for a reasonable length before drifting off with a hint of brine and citrus fruit.
Finish
The bottle has a beautiful map outline of Singapore on the back, similar to how Ocean has a ship. Jefferson’s has been doing a lot of different things with their whiskey and I applaud the experimental attitude. The humidity and virtual equatorial climate of Singapore resulted in a greater interaction between the whiskey and the oak. The resulting brine and salt notes were very interesting, especially combined with the sweetness of bourbon.rnrnOverall Im curious what more time will do, and like Jeffersons Ocean excited to see what this project can show off.
The Bottom Line
Jefferson’s Tropics delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and at $99.99 Very light, alcohol is present, tropical fruits like mango, banana leaves, light coffee, and represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
