Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 2 at 58.8% ABV — the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.
Nose
The nose is savory, with a feel of dry wood and grain. I can pick out pencil shavings, grass, and hay. When I can go deeper into the scent, I pick out hints of tart cherry.
Palate
As it first hits the tongue, I can pick out some richly sweet notes of stewed red fruit. It quickly deepens into darker tones of roasted grain, maple syrup, and bittersweet chocolate. The mouthfeel has a bit of weight but isnt quite heavy. The burn feels low, given the proof, giving me plenty of time to linger on the flavors. When I eventually reach the finish, it is dark, bready, and sweet like honey on rye toast. This is about as rich as I can find an expression. It leans fully into the darker tones of whiskey. Woody, savory, syrupy, and grainy flavors are all at the forefront. Here, the blending helps as it mellows out the thicker flavors and keeps them from becoming too bitter or oily. It leaves only the richness of these flavors, and feels like the kind of whiskey to sip neat in a leather armchair.rnrnIt doesnt quite inspire instant adoration, but it feels new and enriching. If youd like to explore the rich, syrupy, and dark end of the bourbon spectrum, this would be a good choice.

The Bottom Line
Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 2 delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
