Stranahan’s Red Wine Cask Whiskey landed on my desk at 45% ABV), carrying a $69.99/750 ml bottle price tag. Here is what I found.
Nose
Enjoys long legs and a deep tawny color. Theres a distinct jammy red wine aroma, fresh fruit and hay, along with the undertone of honeysuckly and vanilla.
Palate
Without fawning too much more over this one, Stranahan’s Red Wine Cask is a special release that Im excited to share. Its an easy sipper that unfolds as it opens and is unlike any other Single Malt Ive reviewed!
Finish
Distilled from 100% malted barley. Small-batched. Matured 4 years in virgin American Oak with #3 char. Finished for three years in Pinot Noir and Bordeaux casks. Non-chill filtered, cut to proof with Eldorado Springs Rocky Mountain water. 90 Proof (45% ABV). SRP $69.99/750 ml bottle. Wowza, that red wine cask makes its presence known! Earthy and sour in all the best ways, this whiskey came straight off the vine. Full-bodied and grounding, theres a staccato heat, with a frizzante, cola-noted finish. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
The Bottom Line
Stranahan’s Red Wine Cask Whiskey is outstanding — one of those bottles that reminds you why you fell in love with whiskey in the first place. If you see it at $69.99/750 ml bottle, do not hesitate. This one earns a permanent spot on the shelf.
