Expert Review

8.5/10

The Antiquary 21 Year Old Port Cask Finish is a richly aged blended Scotch that makes a compelling case for the art of blending — offering port-influenced depth and 21 years of maturity at a price that undercuts most single malts of similar age.

Oscar Delgado VIPsAllowed — Good but not quite worth the price

The port cask finish adds a pleasant fruitiness and the 21 year age gives it decent complexity. I get toffee, stewed berries, and a hint of nuttiness on the finish. That said, for £94 I've had single malts that impressed me more. It's a well-made blend but the price tag sets expectations it doesn't quite meet.

Every time I pour this for someone they ask what it is. The port finish makes it so approachable — sweet red fruits up front, then this warm spiced oak that lingers. I drink it neat at room temperature and it's just effortless. Genuinely one of the better blended Scotches I've tried at this age statement.

Wasn't expecting much from a blended Scotch but the 21 years of maturation and port cask finish really come through. There's a richness to it — dark berries, a bit of fig, soft vanilla underneath. It's gentle at 40% ABV so works well as a relaxed evening dram. Would buy again if I found it on offer.

Nice enough whisky that does what it says on the tin. Nose is all Christmas cake and plum jam from the port influence, palate follows through with some spice and dark chocolate. At 40% it's easy drinking neat but I do wish they'd bottled it a touch higher — feels like it could handle more punch.

Yuki Nakamura VIPsAllowed — Port finish really works here
9/10

I grabbed this on a whim and it's become one of my favourite after-dinner pours. The port cask finish gives it this lovely dried fruit and berry sweetness that plays really well against the classic Scotch oak and vanilla. At 21 years old and under a hundred quid, I think it's genuinely good value for an aged blend.
