Felix Moreau VIPsAllowed — Batch 2 is a beast

I tried Batch 1 at a tasting last year and this is a step up. The 66.6% hits you but there's real substance underneath — toffee, toasted grain, a bit of smoke that lingers. Had it neat and honestly didn't want to add water. One of the better young American single malts I've had.

Picked this up out of curiosity since I'd never tried anything from 291 distillery. It's young and it shows — a bit rough around the edges with some raw grain coming through. But there's good stuff in there too, like baking spice and caramel. I drink it with a single ice cube and it works well enough.

At 66.6% ABV this thing is a flamethrower, but add a few drops of water and it opens up beautifully — brown sugar, charred oak, and a hint of dried fruit. For a 3-year-old single malt from Colorado, I'm genuinely impressed. Boutique-y always picks interesting casks and this one delivers.

Look, £93.50 for a 3-year-old is a tough sell no matter how you slice it. That said, the whisky itself is solid — big cereal notes on the nose, some leather and spice on the palate, and the high proof gives it serious presence. I'd buy a dram at a bar but probably not a whole bottle.

If you're into cask strength pours this is right in your wheelhouse. The nose is all butterscotch and fresh oak, and the finish just goes on and on with black pepper and vanilla. Yeah it's young and yeah it's not cheap, but 291 is doing genuinely interesting things with American single malt and I'm here for it.
