Tasting Notes

Nose

Much of the ordinary bourbon scents – vanilla, cherry, nuttiness, and a hint of orange.

Palate

There’s a bite mid-palate, which is pretty much when the flavor kicks in. Notes of roasted sweet potato, vanilla bean, and bittersweet chocolate are present, along with the faint presence of baked goods, reminding me most of a coffee cake.

Finish

Comments: Latest On The Whiskey Wash Unspecified mash bill of a 4-grain blend of Corn, Rye, Wheat, and Malted Barley. Limited release of 500 bottles

Cask & Coast California Bourbon bottled at 102 Proof — a $69.99 expression that merits close attention.

Nose

The bourbon is a medium tone, golden chestnut color.

Finish

I found this to be a fully capable bourbon, with a simple flavor profile and a bit more astringency than I prefer in a bourbon. That said, I love a good choice for a cocktail, and this would be as delightful as anything in a nice, chilled Boulevardier.

Verdict

Cask & Coast California Bourbon represents solid craftsmanship at $69.99. While it may not redefine expectations, it offers genuine quality and reliable drinking pleasure.
