Company Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished with Maple Wood arrives at 90 proof. Priced at $56, we assessed it with care.
Nose
Polished copper, or a glass jar of cinnamon held up to noonday light. Ever wonder the color of if a dried apricot got a slight suntan? This is it.
Palate
Speaking of dried fruit, I get dried mango, vanilla ice cream with lots of flecks of vanilla (i.e., Breyers). Tangerines: fresh ones. And Hersheys syrup. I think this straddles both fruity and non-fruity desserts. Oh, wow. I really like this. It is not harsh at all, its smooth and easy drinking and at 90 proof maybe a little toooooo easy-drinking. This does not tingle or sparkle on the tongue with pepper, and I am here for it. It is not heavy, nor is it wispy. It does not taste strongby which I mean it does not taste of alcohol. At 90 proof, its strong, but you wouldnt think it. Im looking forward to seeing what else emerges from these capable folks.
Finish
90 proof, unknown mash bill, distilled in both column and pot still, finished in maple wood, about $56. I’d give this to someone (if I had more of it) who isnt sure about whiskey, because there is absolutely no burn, and nothing about this would make you wince in any way. This is thoroughly enjoyable and Im so glad to have tried it and did I mention I wish I had more of it?
Verdict
Company Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished with Maple Wood is an exceptional expression that stands among the finest in its category. It rewards patience and attention in equal measure, and we recommend it without reservation — though at $56, one expects nothing less.
