Palate

On the palate are flavors of peanut brittle, buttered toffee, rich maple syrup, and kettle corn. Because of the high level of syrupy sweetness this expression may be more suited for mixing in cocktails or use in food recipes than for straight sipping. Unless of course you prefer sweet over savory from your whiskey. The texture is creamy with a short finish that offers a lingering sweetness with hints of buttery peppercorn. A little more savoriness in the flavor profile may have provided a more well balanced product. Overall, this is a very sweet whiskey that’s more butter than bourbon forward.

Verdict

Taffer’s Browned Butter Bourbon is a modest offering that, at $34. The nose offers an initial note of cotton candy followed closely by flavors of brown sugar, but, serves its purpose without distinction. Those seeking depth or complexity may wish to look elsewhere in this price bracket.
